The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) Scheme was launched in 2003, and is the Industry’s largest scheme for plant operators with over 200,000 cards issued. The CPCS Management team started a review of the Scheme in 2007 to ensure that the Scheme met industry’s requirements, whilst being simple to understand.
The review considered comments and suggestions that had been received from industry, the Construction and Design Management regulations (CDM 2007), occupational health issues and technology advances. A proposed model was developed for taking the Scheme forward which was presented to industry during a consultation process over the summer of 2007. Many individuals, federations and firms took the opportunity to feedback on the proposed model. During autumn 2007 the model was amended to take on board the comments received.
