Is it possible to issue the `blue' competence card with any additional added categories in red to show that category has trained operator status to avoid the need to hold 2 cards?

Not at the present time. However, this is a long-term aim of the scheme.

Won’t the title `Trained Plant Operator’ on a card cause problems on site, particularly when experienced operators add a category?

Ensuring the operator holds a `trained plant operator’ (red) card means that the employer has met their legal obligations, and provides industry with an able individual who can progress towards meeting industrial standards.

Is the Intermediate Construction Award mandatory to attain the trained operator card?

Yes, the ICA is required to qualify for a red card, and provides a firm link for progression to achieving the NVQ/SVQ.
