How do I get a card?

As an instructor, if I am unable to renew my operator card, but later on wish to go back operating, how can I get my card back?
CPCS instructors will not need to hold an operator card to renew their instructor one. However if they wish to retain or renew the operator card, they must follow current CPCS procedures.
Why does competence need to be verified every 5 years, surely once a person is tested, it doesn’t take long to regain competence?
The test is a measure of basic safe operating standards. Competence requires the attainment and maintenance of skills over a period of time. If skills are not kept current they can diminish.
How much will it cost to renew the competence card.
The card costs £20.
When adding a category, will the trainee operator card be endorsed or will a new card be issued?
When a new category is added, the card is re-issued. Each addition will have a 3 year period inscribed next to the category description.
Is guidance available to employers to deal with the renewal requirements?
Guidance notes are available from CITB-ConstructionSkills' call centre which contain the criteria for validators and endorsers, Regional CPCS staff can provide further advice.
