Scheme changeover

How did the system cope with those who changed address since they last renewed their CTA card?

As well as sending a letter to each cardholder’s address, other media such as advertising in plant magazines, leaflets, posters and flyers were also used to reach cardholders.

If CTA cardholders have categories for plant on their CTA card that they are unlikely to use over the course of the five years after changing to CSCS will they lose these categories?

If they are unable to log 300 hours over the five years then they will lose the category. A cardholder will be able to undertake a test to prove that they can use the plant.

By issuing a competence card directly to previous CTA cardholders, isn't CPCS producing a two-tier system, i.e. those that have an NVQ and those that don't but still hold the same card?

Operators who already held CTA cards when the scheme changed into CPCS are provided with a competence card without having to complete an N/SVQ. However, they are still required to pass the health and safety test and complete their logbook to renew.

I am a CTA cardholder and I have not yet received my CPCS card and log book, what can I do?

All CTA cardholders were contacted in 2003 to check their personal details before converting them over to the new scheme. However, where cardholders had not kept the CPCS helpdesk informed of changes of address, they may not have received their new card and logbook. If you are a CTA cardholder and haven't received your new CPCS card and logbook, please use the form to update your contact details. Alternatively, you can phone us on 0870 417 7274
