Construction projects
Construction is the single biggest industry in the UK, turning over more than £80 billion of business each year and employing 1 in 14 of the total workforce. It has a global reputation for world class design, inspired architecture and the highest quality building.

Most people don't appreciate the true scale of the industry and of the people who work in it. For example, did you know that 35% of construction workers are self employed, or that we welcome almost 90,000 new employees every year?

Use the dropdown menu to learn more about some of the most exciting and innovative UK construction projects from the past few years.

Belfast's city centre is currently undergoing a massive overhaul to completely transform the face of the area. It is estimated the series of projects will cost a total of £800 million pounds and will take approximately 5 years to complete.

There are a number of developments being undertaken, which were previously unrelated, but have now joined forces to minimise disruption and create one huge venture.

Facts and Figures

Victoria Square will house the largest retail scheme Northern Ireland has ever seen, which will include a 200,000 square foot House of Fraser store.

There will be a huge glass dome covering shops, restaurants and apartments.

The former 'speaker's corner' will become an art-adorned public area, with a 4,000 capacity for concerts and conventions.

Westlink, the chief roadway, will have £75million spent on its expansion - eventually becoming a motorway with three lanes going each way!

185 acres of former historic ship building land, called the Titanic Quarter, will be transformed into an area for residential housing and commercial units.

Extensions to the Opera House, costing £9 million, will improve disabled access and increase the currently cramped front-of-house space.
