Guidance for CDM Regulations Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (CDM)

The CDM 2007 Regulations came into force on the 6th April 2007. This section of the website gives you guidance on the latest changes and their implications. The key aims are to:

  • Encourage everyone to work together to make health and safety an integral part of the design, construction and management of projects
  • Improve planning and management from day one to identify hazards so that they can be eliminated or properly managed
  • Target effort where it can be most effective in terms of health and safety.
  • Encourage co-operation and co-ordination of the project
Approved Code of Practice guidelines (ACoP)

The guidance is classified as an established standard by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). This means that it was developed as a code of practice by representatives working within the sector and should be used to help meet duties outlined in health and safety law. The guidance does not specifically form part of legislation.

This material is available for free download by those fulfilling the roles of the duty holders. Please do not reuse the guidance and content for commercial gain or reproduce any elements of it without our permission.

As well as providing guidance and links to the CDM Regulations and Approved Code of Practice (ACoP), this section of the site also:

  • Outlines the process followed to develop the guidance.
  • Provides a facility for providing feedback on the guidance.
  • Contains links to relevant ConstructionSkills services.
