Management & Supervisory Development Programme
(M&SDP)

M&SDP works with the Consensus Federations to support the development and delivery of management and supervisory programmes and facilitate the uptake of training and qualifications through funding support.

We work to ensure the most effective use of our fund to deliver tangible, sustainable and measurable outputs for all sectors within our industry.

Who can apply?

All applications must be submitted through one of the Consensus Federations.

Applications from a member company of a Consensus Federation will be considered, providing it has endorsement from the Federation.

Our aim and purpose

We administer and distribute funding for projects which support business development and growth, through training individuals in business management and supervisory skills, against identified and agreed needs within construction companies and their supply chains.

Since the fund’s inception, we have been funding projects aimed at improving the quality and quantity of management and supervisory skills training across the UK construction sector. To date, more than 250 projects have received funding, either through one of the Consensus Federations, or with the endorsement of a Consensus Federation.

The scope

Each application for funding must clearly demonstrate that:

  • It addresses an identified and agreed need for management and/or supervisory training and/or development, which is in line with current ConstructionSkills research into industry requirements
  • There is evidence of demand
  • The applicant accepts full responsibility and accountability for the delivery of the funded project and its associated financial commitments within the agreed timescale
  • An identified project manager is in place to take day-to-day control of the project. The fund will support the associated project management costs as part of an application

Range of projects

We are able to support a variety of projects which meet clearly identified management and leadership needs within the construction industry. Click here for details of the sorts of projects that will be considered.

Criteria for successful projects

For your bid to be successful, we have some tips which may help.

Managing benefits

We seek to ensure that benefits are derived, wherever possible, from each project, to ensure that useful information/products can be shared with other specialisms and/or sectors within the construction industry, where appropriate.

We will therefore seek to own the Intellectual Property of projects, where appropriate, in order to disseminate the courses or learning to other sectors or specialists in construction. Where a case is made for you to retain the Intellectual Property Right we will ask for a licence, to enable us to disseminate learning.

Alternatively, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire and supply us with anecdotal or photographic materials to present a case study for our website to inform other Federations of our work and model the funded projects.
