Can I claim Short Duration grant B201 for a Ladder Safety course?

It is a general condition of grant that safety must be an integral part of all training. This means that a course of less than one day entitled “Safe use of…” is not grant-aided. A course of less than one day for the “Safe Use of Dumpers” is considered to be a Dumper operator course – not a safety course; and a half-day “Scaffolding Safety Course” which trains people to erect any kind of scaffolding is a scaffolding course and not a safety course, for grant B202 purposes. The only exception to this rule is for half-day Abrasive wheels courses that are allowed grant support as a special concession.

What is an apprenticeship framework?

Apprenticeships are intended to provide an integrated programme of learning leading to the acquisition and application of the skills, knowledge and understanding required by employers.

Apprenticeship Frameworks consist of a number of elements which are: competency based, knowledge based, a transferable, or ‘key’ skills element and employment rights and responsibilities.

The Apprenticeship is currently not a qualification in its own right.

Sector Skills Councils and Sector Bodies are responsible for determining and publishing any apprenticeship criteria.
