- All training that is supported by a grant prefixed with an A in the Grants Scheme. This includes attendance on NEBOSH (link to definitions) courses which is supported by grant A09.
- Apprentice training which is supported by grants A02, A03, A05 or Craft Grant Non Apprenticeship training, which is supported by grant A08.
- Training for apprentices/trainees who are ineligible for grant aid through A02, A03 and A05 due to the training provider, employer or apprentice, not meeting the grant criteria.
- Instructor training except for CPCS Instructor training as this is supported by grant A41.
- Training that is being claimed through the Training Plan route as this training is supported by grants B101, B102.
- Time spent on non-training activities, such as course registration, induction, domestic arrangements, all break times, external assessments and examinations.
- Training that is company specific.
- Training where the main content relates to the procedures and organisation of a particular firm, (except for courses lasting for at least one day on quality assurance required to enable the firm to achieve BS EN ISO 9001:2000).
- Company, site and customer induction courses.
- Courses of less than one day (with the exception of health, safety and/or environment courses - grant B202 supports this training). Course hours cannot be aggregated.
- CIOB modules attended on a day-release, or half-day-and-evening basis as grant A27 supports this training.
- Evening courses defined as courses programmed to start at 4 p.m. or later as grant B102 supports this training.
- Conferences and seminars.
- Distance learning.
- Courses designed for, or attended by, more than 30 people (irrespective of whether grant is not claimed for the excess numbers).
- Off-the-job courses in the rest of Europe and overseas (unless the course is not available, or could not be held, in Great Britain).
- Language courses.
- Heavy goods vehicle driver’s licence courses.
- VAT courses.
- Tachograph courses.
- Courses delivered by public educational establishments.
