TECHNICAL/PROFESSIONAL ATTENDANCE GRANT REF: A09

This grant is for attendance on approved off-the-job training courses including BTEC, SQA National/Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma, part time Degree or Foundation Degree courses which must be in construction related subjects.

What training is supported by this grant?

  • Each full day of off-the-job attendance, on any year of an approved technical or professional training course.
  • Attendance on NEBOSH courses.
  • A foundation or first degree on a day-release basis, in a construction-related subject.
  • A first post graduate diploma on a day-release basis, in a construction-related subject.
  • A second degree taken on a day-release basis in a construction-related subject, where an individual’s first degree is not construction orientated.
  • Additional off-the-job training leading to the award of the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) advanced construction craft certificate in Scotland (employed technical trainees).

What training is NOT supported by this grant?

  • Evening courses.
  • Completion of CIOB Modules as grant A27 supports this training.
  • Off-the-job attendance by Craft Grant Non Apprenticeship trainees as grant A08 supports this training.
  • Off-the-job college attendance by an apprentice as grants A02, A03, A05 support this training.
  • Training supported by Government-funded or other publicly-funded schemes; for instance, ESF, DfES, LSC, DELLS, LEC and finance from sources other than ConstructionSkills.
  • Day-release attendance for a second degree, where the individual’s first degree is in a construction-related subject.
  • Bridge courses, prior to attendance on technical or professional training course as grant B102 supports this training.
  • Full-time attendance courses.
