People who wish to start a career in the flooring industry and are motivated to work hard to become valuable members of the construction work force.
The course has been designed in close consultation with industry and is offered as part of the Apprenticeship programme. It provides training and assessment in the cutting, laying and fitting of textile & impervious floor coverings including vinyl, thermoplastic, lino and other sheet materials to floors and stair areas together with the practical and theoretical knowledge to achieve the flooring framework.

Entry requirements
All candidates will be required to complete a Skills Learning exercise, and some will need to attend the college for further tests. Apprentices should be capable of reading and interpreting plans, instructions and drawings, as well as being able to calculate areas and quantities of materials required. Flooring projects are often of relatively short duration and so this career may at times offer the opportunity of some travelling to new projects.
Training methods
- Training at the college combines classroom and practical training.
Methods of assessment
All knowledge and understanding assessments will be carried out during attendance at the College. Arrangements will be made to assess apprentices in the workplace during on-site periods. Guidance in portfolio collation and assessments for an NVQ Level 2 qualification will be discussed with the employer and apprentice.

This apprenticeship is available through the following campus:
NNC South (Erith)
Year 1: 3 x 4-week blocks (NCC South) and 1 x 3-week block (NCC South)
Year 2: 1 x 4-week block (NCC South) and1 x 3-week block (NCC South)
The remaining part of the programme is spent on-site with the apprentice’s employer to gain work experience.
